The greatest form of flattery

When I was in middle school, one of my friends would ALWAYS do everything I did. It truly annoyed me to the very core of my being.
I would go home and complain to my parents, but they would always just say imitation is the greatest form of flattery. This never made me feel any less mad.
I wanted to be the only one of myself, and I hated the fact that someone was trying to take that from me.
Now that I've grown up a bit, I don't get as irritated about it because there are certain things that a person just CAN'T take away from you, which is comforting.
